THE CHASE

The Chase begins when one Moth retreats with the intention of leaving, or escaping, the dogfight. He's hurt badly and needs repairs. Now it's time to finish him off. Don't let him get away to kill you later.

Always start the chase by getting behind your opponent. He can only hit you with Laser Turrent from that position. Try to get a little above or below your enemy to minimize the effect of his Turret fire. Keep up the attack. Do as much damage as you can. Don't quit using missiles because you think you have him beat. He could Afterburner to safety, use holograms, or any number of things. Keep on your toes, stay behind him, and blast him.

If he uses his Afterburner and you're in good shape, use your Afterburner and ram him to death. On the other hand, if you are hurting, too, just go to full throttle and follow him as best you can. He'll probably have to slow down considerably at a tunnel or hangar entrance. Now use your Afterburner to catch up and kill him before he gets away. The difference is that you'll have to do less turning and maneuvering with the Afterburner if you wait for him to slow down. You'll have a fairly straight line to follow.

If he fires a Hologram, you'll hear the "hologram" noise. You'll barely be able to make out his real ship if you look closely. It will look like a dim, transparent image. The hologram will look like his regular Moth. Your targeting computer will take you toward the Hologram, not the real Moth.

When you hear the Hologram sound, face your opponent quickly. You will have the Hologram targeted. Look behind the Hologram closely and you may see the faint image of the real Moth. Nothing will home in on it, but you can still blast it with Plasma Kannon, Laser Cannon, or Pulse Laser.

THE END OF THE LINE

My rule of killing is to use everything you've got until your enemy is good and dead. There's no such thing as "overkill". Don't be lulled into using a Laser when you have a FireBurst. Most experienced pilots will act like they are more damaged than they really are to lure you near enough to use a Devastator on you. Yes, this has happened to me and it's not pretty. (Credit to Yosemite Jane for "demonstrating" this technique to me.) This is when I developed the "Sweet Revenge Combo" mentioned previously (GroundBase followed immediately by Devastator).

The point is to keep up a maximum attack until your enemy is destroyed. You'll have time to restock later after your enemy is dead, dead, dead, good and dead. While one weapon is reloading, use another, and another, and so forth, until you've won. This is why changing weapons and the "Next Weapon" function is so important in the online game.

To drill this point home, I've fought over a dozen pilots online and have never been destroyed by laser fire. I've always been killed by a missile and am proud to announce that it's usually a Devastator. Well, it worked and I died. I've also lured many an enemy that thought they had me into a tunnel trap (big heehee's to NayJay, Ouch, and Yosemite Jane. These are also pilots who have killed me, too.). To this date NayJay is the only one to have survived such a trap. The point I'm trying to make is to stay on your enemy with everything you've got. You never know what they've got up their sleeve.
