INTRODUCTION

Most of the multiple attacks you encounter will be a pilot joining in on your current dogfight. This generally occurs with me when I'm fighting an AI pilot and a human pilot joins the game and enters the fray. I've only encountered two human pilots simultaneously on three or four occassions.

One tip here is to stay on the factions' good side in the online game. If you get cornered by a human enemy in an enemy faction's crater, you've just about had it. Keep your nose clean with the factions.

The biggest key to winning these types of attacks is to recognize them. Keep an eye on the radar for more than one "red line" converging on you. Multiple attacks are very dangerous and you are not likely to survive one. As you are concentrating on one enemy, another slips in behind you. When you target the second enemy, the original one starts blasting you.

IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO ESCAPE IMMEDIATELY UPON DETECTING A MULTIPLE ATTACK UNLESS YOUR INITIAL TARGET IS WITHIN ONE SECOND OF BEING DESTROYED. RUN FIRST, FIGHT SECOND.

ALWAYS TARGET THE NEAREST SHIP SHOOTING AT YOU. DON'T SPEND ALL OF YOUR TIME ON ONE TARGET. SPREAD THE DAMAGE AROUND ALL PILOTS ATTACKING YOU.

SPLITTING YOUR ENEMY

The best approach to a multiple attack is to divide the enemy and lure them into individual dogfights. Enemies with different kinds of Moths will have different speeds and naturally separate from one another as you run. Set up a tunnel trap for the first one and kill him before the second one arrives.

The Damage Split

A more commonly needed splitting technique is to deliver quick, heavy damage to your best armed opponent. If you must attack the two together, concentrate on the best armed Moth. If you can't figure out which Moth is better armed, then attack the faster one. All things being equal, attack the nearest one.

If you GroundBase or FireBurst the strong opponent, he may have to run for repairs during your escape. Now you can concentrate on killing the weaker enemy before your stronger foe returns to the battle.

Don't spend too much time attacking the stronger enemy. A couple of quick missiles and escaping with Laser Turret blazing is about all you can afford. Remember to keep an eye on your shields. The other enemy will be firing on you while your attacking the stronger enemy.

The Evasion Split

The Evasion Split is effective at both separating your enemies and identifying the most dangerous one. Begin the Evasion Split by speeding (Afterburner) to a tunnel and speed through it. One of your enemies is apt to take a beating speeding through the tunnel and be delayed. The other pilot is your biggest threat.

You can also fly around buildings and keep an eye on which enemy is able to get behind you. He's the most dangerous pilot. After the most dangerous pilot is identified, he should be your first priority. Try to split him off of the other pilots and kill him. The weaker pilot will lag behind in a good escape with evasions even if he's in a faster Moth.

MULTIPLE ENGAGEMENT

You should only fight two or more enemies at once if there is no option of escape and splitting them up. You are not likely to win this battle. If you've made an escape an still can't split your opponents, you are going to have to face them together.

Use Holograms Offensively

Try to pull out of your enemies' immediate fire. Turn to face them and fire a Hologram. This will divert them. Start pummelling the nearest enemy with GrounBase or whatever else you have. Deal him some damage and run. If you can kill him, by all means do so. Just remember to run and repair before engaging the next enemy.

Now try to set a trap for the remaining enemy and kill him before the other pilot has a chance to return. Recognize this pattern?

Direct Engagement

In all cases, you may have to directly fight two or more enemy until you can find an escape. Use Holograms constantly if you can. Otherwise, pick one enemy and concentrate on him until you have his shields stripped or yours have dropped below 50%. Retarget the other enemy at this point. He's the one delivering the damage.

Use the "Next Target" function, Holograms, Laser Turret, and the Quick-Turn to face off with him. Hopefully, your origianal target will be slowed down considerably and slow to attack you. Keep targeting back and forth until you have one enemy destroyed and/or escape for repairs.

It's been mentioned that yours truly, Captain Zedo, runs a lot and it's irritating. Point #1: I run a lot, but I win a lot, too. Point #2: It's not my job to make the kill easy for you. I run early and fast and come back with a vengance. That's why when other pilots get the better of me they usually use techniques of "General Cruelty" to teach me a lesson.
